Norman B. Kellum, Jr. 1937 – 2026

It is with profound sadness that Kellum Law Firm announces the passing of our founder, Norman B. Kellum, Jr., who left this world peacefully on May 11, 2026, at the age of 88.

For more than six decades, Norman Kellum was one of North Carolina’s most respected trial lawyers and a beloved figure throughout Eastern North Carolina. Through his leadership, compassion, and unwavering dedication to helping others, he built Kellum Law Firm into one of the state’s most recognized personal injury law firms while remaining deeply committed to the people and communities he served.

Beyond his accomplishments as a lawyer, Norman Kellum was a mentor, leader, devoted husband, father, grandfather, veteran, and lifelong member of First Baptist Church of New Bern. He was known not only for his courtroom skill and remarkable storytelling ability, but for the kindness, integrity, and personal attention he gave to every client and every person he encountered.

Kellum Law Firm will continue to operate under the leadership of John Briggs and will continue forward in honor of Mr. Kellum’s legacy, with the same commitment to integrity, compassion, and always placing clients first. Craig Keenhold, Mr. Kellum’s son-in-law and the firm’s Director of Operations, will also continue in his role, ensuring that the family’s presence and deep roots within the firm remain as strong as they have always been.

Funeral arrangements will be announced once finalized.

The Kellum family and Kellum Law Firm ask that the community keep Ruth Kellum, Beth, Catherine, and the entire family in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
